ABOUT US
Our Story
In 2009, Burleigh Heads Govindas emerged from the dedication of volunteers committed to serving wholesome vegetarian cuisine. Rapidly embraced by locals and food enthusiasts alike, Govindas introduced the Hare Krishna kitchen culture, offering an inviting casual dining experience. Renowned for our value-packed combination plates, every visit promises a delightful culinary adventure.
Driven by success and a growing demand for our delectable offerings, Govindas expanded to Coolangatta, QLD, in 2019, and Kingscliff, NSW, in 2020. Our journey continues, introducing the distinctive flavors of Govindas to new communities, cementing our reputation as a cherished local gem.
Our Community
At Govindas, we foster authentic connections that go beyond the traditional restaurant experience. More than a dining venue, we’ve evolved into a cherished community hub. Our commitment is genuine and steadfast. Through a thoughtfully curated menu, accessible to all tastes and budgets, we strive to make our meals a universal delight.
Beyond the commonplace, our dedication extends to supporting various charities, non-profits, community fundraisers, and schools, embodying our mission to contribute positively to the well-being of the broader community and spiritual development. This is more than a mission – it’s a heartfelt contribution to the thriving spirit of our community.

Our Culture
Within the essence of Govindas Restaurant’s iconic logo and steadfast following thrives a profound spiritual culture rooted in the teachings of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.
At the core of Govindas lies an inherent commitment to the care and support of our cows. The name “Govinda,” synonymous with Krishna, translates to “One who gives pleasure to the senses and protects the cows.”
Our culture revolves around fostering a nurturing connection between Krishna (or God) and all living beings. We firmly believe that the consciousness invested in preparing our food permeates the culinary experience for those who partake in it. Thus, we endeavour to infuse our food with love and service, offering it daily. This blessed nourishment is known as “Prasadam,” embodying the divine connection and the essence of a shared meal filled with love and gratitude.
Hare Krishna Farm
Nestled in the foothills of the mystical Mt Warning national park, just 10 minutes from Murwillumbah, NSW, the spiritual community of ISKCON New Govardhan thrives. Locally known as the “Hare Krishna Farm,” it is a sanctuary that embraces the ethos of “simply living & higher thinking,” drawing inspiration from the sacred teachings of the Bhagavad-Gita and other ancient Vedic texts. This serene property, encompassed by natural beauty, features an ISKCON Temple, the renowned Krishna Village Eco Community, Retreat Center, Guest Houses, Camping areas, Yoga Halls, Bhaktivedanta Swami Gurukula (Primary & High School), and our Goshala Ahisma-Dairy, home to our beloved cow herd. The Farm warmly welcomes thousands of guests annually, inviting exploration of our offerings at krishnavillage-retreat.com and krishnafarm.net for more information.
Our Mission is to serve our community by making healthy, conscious food available for everyone.
